The sales function is the engine that drives all business endeavors (selling products or services), job-seeking (selling yourself), fundraising (selling your mission), and similar activities.

Small business owners, executive directors, and sales people put a lot of effort into marketing, advertising, networking, and generating referrals. Understanding the sales process means knowing how to effectively turn the prospects attracted by those efforts into clients. It also means knowing how to generate repeat business from existing clients.
